Safety Flooring and Safety Pits for Climbing Frames

Climbing Frame InstallerBefore installing your climbing frame you might want to consider constructing a safety play pit around its perimeter. Play pits which contain a safety flooring or surface such as rubber or bark chippings can protect your little ones from serious injury if they were to take a tumble.

The climbing frame installer team encourage the prevention of accidents and safe play with all of the playset we build, but of course the decision is yours. You will obviously need to find a safety surface which suits your garden, is best for your children and of course fits into your budget.

Children’s climbing frames that we regularly install, from various manufacturers including Selwood Products, Action, PlayCrazy, NI Climbing Frames, Plum, Dunster House and more are free standing so can be built onto grass. However you might want to consider safer surfaces that your climbing frame could be installed on.

Our team of professional climbing frame installers have experience in building playsets as well as play pits and safety areas. The play pit surrounding the Skyfort climbing frame shown here contains rubber bark which provides a great platform of safety. The bark in the play pit is confined using a wooden border. This also helps stop the bark from spreading across the garden.

Rubber Bark is a fantastic safety product that not only looks the part but it also provides Climbing Frame Installerdecent coverage and a very good safety surface. Rubber bark or chippings provide a soft and springy landing if children do take a tumble without any sharp edges or small pieces to dig into hands.

Rubber bark is generally preferred over a natural bark safety surface due to the high maintenance that is required with the use of natural bark. Natural bark tends to shrink as it breaks down quickly compared to rubber bark. Natural bark does attract a lot of bugs as it is their natural habitat which is not ideal for your children’s play area.

Depending on the safety surfacing you require or would like, here are a few things you need to think about:

1. Critical Fall Height – the depth of safety surface needed will depend on the critical fall height of the climbing frame you are looking to purchase.

2. Ensure you have measured your garden space and have left enough space for a safety surface to go beyond the parameter of the climbing frame itself.

3.Which type of safety surface are your children going to prefer to play on.
