What to consider when buying a climbing frame?

  1. QualityDunster House MaxiFort Frontier Climbing Frame Playset

Children’s climbing frames from Dunster House are manufactured from a natural wooden timber which is strong and reliable. Dunster House perform rigorous quality control checks on their machine cut timbers which make up their play equipment. The wood also undergoes a pressure treatment to protect the wood from rotting and ensure Dunster House play frames have a long life span.

  1. What accessories does the playset include?

Obviously you want to provide your children with the climbing frame they are going to get the most out of and enjoy the most, therefore you will want it to include all of their favourite activities. The accessories included within your play frame should cater to your children’s ages and abilities too.

The Maxi Fort climbing frame from Dunster House features a sturdy wooden play tower with a spacious play deck/raised play cabin for children to climb to as well as a solid wooden roof over the top. The Maxi Fort includes both a step ladder and a rockwall as ways of climbing to the play house. The step ladder as an easier route for less confident climbers and the rockwall for older children which provides more of a challenging climb. The Maxi Fort Frontier climbing frame also includes a wavy slide, space for a sandbox and the popular space saving monkey bar swing beam combined.

  1. Garden size/space

The Maxi Fort Frontier playset is designed with medium to large sized gardens in mind as the expansive play fort plus the monkey bar swing module and the wavy slide at the front of the play frame require a fair amount of space. However, if you are not lucky enough to have the space for the Maxi Fort Frontier, Dunster HouseDunster House MaxiFort Frontier Climbing Frame Playset also offer smaller play frames to cater for smaller gardens including the JuniorFort Tower and the JuniorFort Monkey for example. It is important to ensure once your playset is installed that there will still be adequate room around the accessories and play frame itself. It is really important to leave a ‘safe play zone’ around the perimeter of your climbing frame to make sure kids have enough room to play safely and happily. It is very dangerous to have obstacles near the edges of your playset in case of tumbles from accessories etc. That is why it is advised to leave a safe area around your climbing frame for example at the bottom of the slide and at the bottom of accessories like climbing walls, ladders, cargo nets etc.

  1. Installation

Dunster House climbing frames are not designed in a way that they can be sunken into the ground at all. Some play frames such as Play Crazy playsets can be dug into the ground and concreted in to increase their stability, however play frames from Dunster House and other manufacturers including Selwood Products and Jungle Gym cannot be sunken in at all. Therefore Dunster House playsets must be installed on top of a flat area of grass or a flat safety surface. As they stand on top of a surface they will need to be level and sturdy to make them stable enough for children to safely play on them. Climbing frames that can be sunken into the ground can cope with slightly more uneven ground or a gradient in your garden.

Although climbing frames from Dunster House are prepared for self-assembly you may still wish for someone to come and professionally install your playset for you. Our team of climbing frame installers are experienced in constructing children’s play equipment and can make sure your climbing frame is installed correctly and safe to use. Our certified playset builders have experience in assembling wooden play frames from Dunster House as well as most other popular climbing frame manufacturers.
